About Your Psychiatrist

Eric Wagner, MD — Psychiatrist & Medical Director

“It is an innately human desire to be heard, seen, and understood.”

Dr. Wagner is an adult-focused psychiatrist, the founder of Fortifying Wellness, and a proud Colorado native. He studied biomedical sciences at the University of Colorado–Colorado Springs, earned his medical degree at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, and completed a rigorous four-year psychiatric residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Wagner specializes in mood disorders, including difficult-to-treat depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder, with extensive experience in ADHD, trauma disorders, insomnia, and OCD. He believes psychiatry works best when it rests on safety, respect, and thoughtful collaboration — listening first, then building a plan around the whole person.

Fortifying Wellness is an independent practice — locally owned, physician-led, and rooted in the Littleton community. Your care is shaped by clinical judgment and what’s right for you, never by a corporate playbook.

FAQs & Insurance

Answers before you even have to ask

Coverage, costs, and the practical questions patients ask most, answered plainly. Have another? Reach out and our office manager will contact you.

We accept insurance to help make care affordable

We accept major commercial plans for treatments including TMS and Spravato®. Our team verifies your benefits, manages prior authorization, and provides a written estimate before treatment, so there are no surprises.

  • Aetna
  • Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield (Elevance / Carelon)
  • Optum
  • UnitedHealthcare

Don’t see your plan? Coverage changes often. Call (720) 432-0958 and we’ll check your benefits for free. Superbills are available for out-of-network reimbursement. We also work with Pay by HFA for patients who prefer to spread payments over time.

Verify My Benefits

Paying without insurance? Our rates are published here.

A note on Medicaid and Medicare: We do not accept Medicaid or Medicare. We cannot see Health First Colorado (Medicaid) members even on a self-pay basis. Medicare members are welcome to self-pay for IV ketamine, which Medicare does not cover. See the FAQ below for details.

In crisis right now?

If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. You can also call or text the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988, available 24/7.

Are you a provider?

We partner closely with therapists, primary care physicians, and psychiatrists, and we always close the loop. Visit our For Providers page for referrals and coordination of care.

Do you accept Medicare or Medicaid?

No. We are not in-network with Medicare or Medicaid, and by Colorado law we cannot see Health First Colorado (Medicaid) members at all, even on a self-pay basis. State regulation (10 CCR 2505-10, Section 8.012.2) prohibits providers from accepting payment from Medicaid members for covered services, whether or not the provider is enrolled with Medicaid. If you have active Medicaid, please call the member number on your card or visit healthfirstcolorado.com to find covered behavioral health care. Medicare works differently: Medicare does not cover IV ketamine infusions for depression, so Medicare members can be seen for that service on a self-pay basis.

Will my insurance cover TMS?

Most major commercial plans cover TMS for treatment-resistant depression once step-therapy criteria are met, typically a depression diagnosis plus documented trials of antidepressant medication. We handle the prior authorization for you and tell you exactly what your plan requires. Learn who qualifies for TMS →

What if I’m out of network?

We provide superbills you can submit to your insurer for out-of-network reimbursement, and our self-pay rates are published so you can weigh your options up front. We also work with Pay by HFA for patients who prefer to spread payments over time.

How do I get a written estimate?

Before any course of treatment we verify your benefits and can provide a written, good-faith estimate of your expected costs.

How do I schedule an appointment?

Request a free consultation with our short form, book through Zocdoc, or simply call (720) 432-0958. Existing patients can call us anytime.

What happens at the first appointment?

Your first visit is a 90-minute comprehensive evaluation: your story, history, medications, and goals. You’ll leave with a clear diagnostic picture and a personalized plan, which sometimes concludes that medication isn’t necessary at all.

Do you offer telehealth?

Yes. Secure, HIPAA-compliant video visits are available to patients throughout Colorado. In-person care, including TMS and Spravato®, takes place at our Littleton office.

How often will I have appointments?

Early in care, visits are typically every 2–4 weeks. Once you’re stable, most patients are seen every 1–3 months. Patients on medication are seen at least every 3 months.

What is your cancellation policy?

We ask for at least 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule. Missed appointments without notice incur a $100 fee.

Do you provide ADHD or autism evaluations?

We provide comprehensive ADHD evaluations for adults 18 and older. For autism evaluations, we refer to trusted local specialists and will help you get connected.
